These are my favorite personal development books. They have helped shape my thinking into what it is today.

Personal Development

Memories, Dreams, Reflections by C. G. Jung

This book got me started in my passion for personal development and exploring the subconscious. I love, love, love this book. Reading it always feels like I’m listening to a very wise old friend tell me the story of his life.

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose (Oprah’s Book Club, Selection 61)

By far one of the best books on how to be blissful and become more aligned with your higher consciousness. I love, love, love this book. Love it. Seriously.

Intuitive Living: 7 Steps to Developing Your Intuitive Self

The Man Whisperer: Speaking Your Man’s Language to Bring Out His Best

This book will help you understand exactly how to communicate with your boyfriend, fiance, or husband to bring out his best qualities. I highly recommend this one, ladies.

The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands

Although a little old-fashioned and dare-i-say-even a little anti-feminist, this book does do something I consider very important: it brings the spotlight back to the feminine part of the equation in your relationship. The truth is, I strongly believe the woman determines the level of happiness in the partnership. While I don’t necessarily agree with everything Dr. Laura recommends, we’re on the same page about this: it’s all about respect. The more respected you make your man feel, the more he will love, cherish, and spoil you rotten. I personally transformed my relationship from catastrophe to bliss (and marriage!) once I finally got that.

For Women Only: What You Need to Know about the Inner Lives of Men

This is a cute and extremely useful book about men and how they think. The author interviewed hundreds of men about how they see various different typical points of conflict and curiosity in a relationship. She organized everything along with some well-targeted advice in this most precious and wonderful book. I read the one linked up top, but she’s also released a second edition since, which I haven’t read yet.

For Men Only, Revised and Updated Edition: A Straightforward Guide to the Inner Lives of Women

Because I couldn’t leave out my male readers ;)

The Dance of Anger: A Woman’s Guide to Changing the Patterns of Intimate Relationships

One of the best books in communication and assertiveness that I’ve ever read. Particularly useful for learning to say no and managing relationships with nagging family members. Out of all the books, I probably recommend this one to the most people.
